Presbyopia Presbyopia is the condition which comes about as a normal aging of the eyes takes place. Presbyopia usually affects people over the age of forty as the eye starts to lose some of its flexibility and creates difficulty in focusing during reading or close work. Treatment Presbyopia is usually corrected with eyeglasses or contact lenses which may need to be increased in strength as a person ages. For those with other refractive problems such as myopia, hyperopia or astigmatism, bifocal of trifocal lenses may be prescribed.
